Nowhere is the change of season more on display than at the Gdańsk Outdoor 'Green' Market and Market Hall on Dominikański Square.
The autumn harvest abounds with seed-studded sunflower heads, cranberries, fresh hazelnuts, and ripe, deep purple plums. Pots of multi-coloured heather are waiting to brighten up your windowsill.
The market itself is a lovely, lively place to visit all year round. Not only can you stock up on a wide variety of local and imported fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers here, but you can also have a chat with the sellers, be privy to local recipe secrets, or just sit on a sunny bench and enjoy your just bought, juicy plum!
The site of the market adjoins the historic and beautifully restored Market Hall. Built in 1896 it survives to this day, having undergone minor alterations and restoration work over the years. You can see photographs and drawings of the Market Hall dating back as far as 1906 in the gallery on their website here.
The entire basement floor of the market hall is dedicated to fishmongers, butchers, bakers and delis. On the ground and first floor are small shops and boutiques selling mostly clothing and shoes.
Both the Outdoor 'Green' Market and the Market Hall are open weekdays from 9am 'til 6pm, and Saturdays from 9am 'til 3pm.
