So what to do on such rain and wind swept days? How about a movie matinee in one of Tricity's cosy, alternative cinemas?

 

 

 

W Starym Kadrze cafe not only has an impressive coffee, tea and dessert menu, but also shows a variety of classic and cult films every day at 2pm, 5pm and 8pm - Comedy Mondays, Icon Tuesdays, Horror Wednesdays, Science fiction Thursdays, Musical Fridays, Oscar Saturdays and Family Sundays. Klub Filmowy at 1 Jerzego Waszyngtona Street, Gdynia is another great alternative to mainstream cinema, as are old favourites Cinemas Helikon and Kameralne on Długa Street in Gdańsk.

the ribbons concerto

It will remain on display at the Wielki Młyn Square until 30 September 2012.

Last weekend, after three weeks of festivities, arts, crafts and roaring trade, Gdańsk bid farewell to yet another St Dominic's Fair.

step back in time

This lovely 'time machine' recently popped up on Gdańsk's cafe scene.


Wile away the afternoon at Retro cafe with a friend or a good book at one of the big windows overlooking the garden in the back... listening to 1920's melodies and soaking up the retro atmosphere created in this comfy, softly lit space.


The menu has over 30 varieties of tea, delicious coffees and retro cocktails, and the daily cake selection is a treat. My home-made apple pie was served warm with vanilla ice cream and a generous dollop of fresh cream... yum!

Retro is open daily 11am - 11pm, 5/6 Piwna Street, Gdańsk

Take a chance to listen to a Polish photographer Rafał Milach talking about his photographic project "7 rooms". He has been fascinated with Russia and Russian people for years. Milach spent six years with seven people in three Russian cities: Moscow, Yekaterinburg and Krasnoyarsk. The series "7 rooms" depict Russians in their thirties and their surroundings. The people are sort of clashed between post-soviet mentality and contemporary Russian attitude. They are anxious, but on the other hand strongly connected to their country. During the meeting in Instytut Sztuki Wyspa Rafał Milach will tell their stories and how he had worked on the photographs.

remedy for winter blues

Recently the cold, wet weather and eternally grey skies have given me a serious bout of the winter blues! 
In an attempt to lift my mood I went in search of some beautiful flowers to brighten up my day and my home.

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of visiting the 5th edition of Gdańsk's fashion, design and young art fair hosted at the Baltic Opera.

cinematic love affair

In the heart of one of the loveliest neighbourhoods of Gdańsk, old Oliwa, is a cinema lover's visual delight called Kafe Delfin. This charismatic café and pub, named after the former cinema Delfin, is decorated with salvaged cinema furniture, fixtures and equipment, creating a retro cinematic style.

A savoury regional beer, hot wine with spices which will warm your body & soul on a winter evening or a scrabble round with a friend? There is no better place to have it all in Gdańsk than Café Lamus. We found this place very inspiring, so we decided to have a small photo session there.

Gdańsk Dolne Miasto (Lower Town) is home to HANDMADE: shop, art workshop, and photography studio.

It's the brainchild of twin sisters Iwona and Marta Dawicka, who run the shop as well as their own fashion and accessory label, TWINS. Michał Sikorski is the talent behind the photography studio which is part of HANDMADE.
